Neil Cowlan is a guitarist, songwriter and educator from the UK.
Primarily known as a Blues guitarist that can hold his own against some of the best, Neil has steadily grown reputation for his incredibly emotional and deep, powerful playing that is fused with catchy, melodic and soulful songwriting. Although Neil generally calls himself a Blues guitarist, to say he is "just" a Blues guitarist doesn't quite fit. Neil's playing fuses Blues, Funk, Jazz and Rock effortlessly and his ability to blur the boundaries between genres can't help but draw you in and get you hooked.
As a session guitarist, songwriter, producer and mix engineer Neil has worked with artists such as Thin Lizzy, GraceSarah, Damian Cox, Keith Wilkinson (Squeeze & Jools Holand), Jamie Morrison (Noisettes, Duffy, Stereophonics), Emily Fraser, Polly Paulusma, John Parker (Nizlopi), Yamaha Musical Instruments, Ethan Ash, Gil Karpas, Rebecca Heyne, No Man (Stephen Wilson) and many many more. Neil is a hugely popular tutor, both for guitar and also workshops on various areas of music and is an internationally published guitar tutor. I am very proud to be a supported artist with Hamstead Soundworks Amplifiers, PRS Guitars and Amps and Dunlop Strings.
QUOTES: Harry Harris: "Neil's playing on my track Kitty's Daddy knew exactly what the song needed, which is the greatest skill for any musician. Amazing tone and subtle restraint, it lifted the song to the next level”
Violet Transmissions: "Listen to that solo. It took Neil zero time to get that sound, and only 2 or 3 takes to lay it down. And it's one of the best parts of the song!"
"I suggested to Neil a Rolling Stones rhythm guitar part, and sang a completely rubbish rendition of what I was hearing. Two takes for each part and he had nailed it.”
Simon Kent: “Neil is world class, a pleasure to work with. He instinctively knows what a track needs and exceeds expectations every time.”
Myles Sanko: “Mr Neil Cowlan approaches every project professionally, he is very versatile, quick to understand and most importantly a great guy to work with. I look forward to many more projects with him”
GraceSarah: “Just wanted to say a BIG thanks for everything - the recording, the mixing, the mastering, the patience, the laughter and of course the amazing guitar work - you’re the shiz!”
Polly Paulusma: “Thank you for all your talents! Lets get together soon!”.
